At Heritage School this year, our campers will explore the the house and grounds of the Historic Headquarters House Museum, while learning about geology, archaeology, and the many historic uses for rocks and minerals. We'll see some fun and educational presentations from archaeologists, a blacksmith, and many other local artists and historians.  

Some of our hands-on activities will include flintknapping, finding clay in the wild and forming it into pottery, making paints with local rocks and minerals, identifying and creating fossils, growing our own geodes, and making edible rock candy! 

We'll learn some of the many ways that minerals have been used for health purposes, such as Hot Springs baths, clay masks, and even tooth powder, and make some of our own. 

We'll learn about the Tebbetts family, who lived in Headquarters House at the start of the Civil War. In addition, we'll talk about the enslaved people who lived and worked there as well. 

We'll learn and perform 1860s Social Dances, such as the Virginia Reel and Soldier's Joy.  

Again this year, we'll be learning about the Battle of Fayetteville, which took place right in front of Headquarters House, by playing a tabletop RPG game based on the Battle. We'll learn the history of who fought in the Battle and why, and the role that it played in the Civil War.

 Camp will take place at The Washington County Historical Society at 118 E. Dickson St in Fayetteville. 

We'll cook something tasty in our Dutch oven each day! 

Healthy snacks and drinks will be provided. Snacks, all supplies and a one-year student membership to the Washington County Historical Society are included in the price of enrollment. 

Enrollment is $150.00, with each additional sibling $85.00
